This high-level session focuses on how national governments can systematically incorporate robust urban content, municipal data, and local climate action plans into their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). As cities generate the vast majority of global emissions and face acute climate vulnerabilities, bridging national climate goals with local reality is an urgent priority.
Leveraging UN-Habitat’s ongoing work on urban NDC enhancement and the Coalition for High Ambition Multilevel Partnerships for Climate Action (CHAMP), this session brings together national policymakers, urban practitioners, and international organizations to explore practical pathways for vertical and horizontal integration, ensuring that urban priorities and local governance become foundational pillars of national climate commitments.
